August Update ‘The team go back to school’

Charity Sale for the RNLI The end of July saw us send auctioneer Harry down to Lyme Regis to assist our sister auction house Lyme Bay Auctions with their charity sale in the boat house. It was a fun 40 minutes auctioneering the usual range of local donations, and as ever we would urge anyone who has a few pounds spare to support this excellent organisation. Our End of July Sale We were delighted to offer a large selection of Porsche die casts, last seen approximate ten years ago at the Porsche museum, the forty or so lots were hotly contested and achieved great prices for our client. At Home Appraisals We are, happily, always busy but have seen a large rise in the number of at home appraisals of items for auction. Quite often customers ring and they have a large number of items for appraisal that packing up and bringing in for appraisal is frankly inconvenient and not practical. Therefore we offer a free at home appraisal, our valuers are quite often found perched at customers dining or kitchen tables looking through items for customer. If you want to take advantage of this service please give us a call on 01753 868076 The Gavel and The Gabble Podcast We are delighted with the reception our latest endeavour, our podcast, has received. A not too serious look at everything auctions, antiques, house clearances etc. It sees Harry and Simon chat through their weeks and answer questions from listeners and customers.   You should listen to the next episode if you want to hear how Harry was recently sent to the Headmistress’ office!! Links for Spotify and Apple Podcast are here.  Clearing the Frognal Estate This month saw our team start to clear the convent at the Marist school, previously the Frognal Estate with items coming up for sale in the next few weeks. The Frognal Estate was Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower’s HQ during WWII and we were still able to see his bathroom where no doubt he soaked in the tub whilst planning the campaign. Our Next Sale Due to the Bank Holiday weekend we have moved the date of our next sale to Saturday 20th August from 10.30 am ...

Available on Apple and Spotify and other platforms please subscribe and check us out, follow the link on our linktree for more info If you have someone who you would like us to chat to or interview email us on thegavelandthegabble@gmail.com or if you are in the industry and what to get in touch do the same. June Sees A Charity Auction at Royal Ascot Golf Club for Cancer Research UK One of our clients asked if we would lend them an auctioneer to conduct a charity auction to raise a few pounds for this hugely important charity. In current conditions, we take our hats off to the companies who dig deep to donate ten quality lots for the auction that raised over £3000 on the day. Huge thanks to those who bid, create the banter and join in, it can be a lonely 20 minutes on the rostrum if the crowd doesn’t get involved. July 27th RNLI Life Boat Week Charity Auction  We are really looking forward to taking over the lifeboat station down at Lyme Regis on the afternoon of the 27th to raise money for the RNLI. There is still space for a few companies to dig deep and donate something for the auction, please do get in touch by calling the office on 01753 868076. July At Windsor Auctions

July saw us doing all sorts of different things alongside our usual auctioneering and house clearances. Always and enjoyable day was popping down to Lyme Regis to help our sister auction house with a valuation day in support of the RNLI, not only a great organisation but lovely hosts. We sat outside the lifeboat station appraising a wide range of items in return for a donation. The general public got to see where their donations go as there was a ‘shout’ whilst we were there and the crew were quickly launched in to the harbour. Next year our intention is to return to an online and live auction in the lifeboat station itself so if you are a company or generous individual who has a top end item or similar that we can auction please do get in touch (01753 868076 or sales@windsorauctions.co.uk)   No sooner was our auctioneer Harry back from doing this then he was off to talk about downsizing and how Auction Houses like ours can help at Castle View Retirement Village in Windsor. What a great set up and a lovely group of people are around to support the owners.  The views from the Sky Bar over Windsor are truly impressive. If you are planning a move or want to arrange a tour give Ruth a call on 01753 378127 there is nothing she doesn’t know about the development. Our Auctions continue to grow and June and July have seen all sorts of treasures come to market, we are delighted that the silver section of our sales have continued to grow and that we are now offering clients of large collections or similar there own auctions. Our House Clearance division continues at pace and the team are creating quite a name for themselves with the number of compliments they get from clients, always willing to go the extra mile. Although auctions continued online throughout lockdown – last weekend was the first sale Windsor Auctions were able to welcome people back into the room and the team couldn’t be happier. The stand out success of the sale was a single bronze, consigned by a lady who is downsizing and moving home, that she bought for only 50p. A last minute entry and catalogued as After Giacomo Zoffoli (c.1731-1785) Italian, “Flore Farnese”, signed, a green patina bronze. Although estimated at £200 to £400, the hammer went down after five minutes of bidding in the room, on the internet and via multiple phone lines at £5500. Auctioneer Harry Ballin said ‘Our client is delighted and this windfall will certainly help with her moving costs’ ‘As this is the first sale that we have been able due to current constrictions to welcome customers back in to the room it is great that a successful auction had this great story as...
